The first-ever ice hockey game was played in Montreal, Canada. Currently, modern-day ice hockey is adapted into multiple leagues and nations.
The goal of the game is straightforward. A team must score higher than its opponent and vice versa by shooting the puck into the opponent's net. The opposite team will try to defend and avoid conceding goals. The goalie will try to block the puck using his hands and body, but within the goal area.
For a team, there are 6 players, including a goaltender in the net, similar to a goalkeeper in soccer. 1 goaltender, 2 defensemen, and 3 forwards (1 center + 2 wingers).
A game usually has three periods, with each period lasting 20 minutes. A break is given between each period. By the end, if both sides scored an equal number of goals, then the game will go to overtime.
In case of any fouls committed, the player will be penalized. The penalized player will stay in the penalty box for two minutes. During which the other team gets a power play (playing against one less player on the opponent).
